ABCs of Newborn Baby Care

About Baby Nurse Films, Inc

My name is Meg Ostrow and I am the founder.

When I had my son Jackson, I was scared, nervous and clueless about caring for him. I had read all the books on pregnancy and baby care; my husband bought ten of them but he didn’t read one. I had asked friends who had children about what to expect. Amazingly they didn’t remember much even though their kids were toddlers. I had asked my mom what to expect. All she remembered was that she didn’t sleep for two years (I am a twin). So after taking all this information in, I decided to hire a Baby Nurse.

Michele Kemlar was amazing. She taught me how to bathe, breastfeed, swaddle and cut his nails.  She gave advice on everything. She was like a walking encyclopedia on baby care. When she left, I was sad. She kept assuring me that I know everything and if I had questions to call Jackson’s pediatrician. I agreed but was still scared. “How do I know if he is sick? Does he have colic or gas?  Why is he crying so much? Am I doing everything right? Wait, I forgot what she said?”

It wasn’t until months later when Michele’s name came up. A friend was asking for her number but wasn’t sure if she could afford her. I remember my husband saying to me, “Somebody should make a baby care video that everyone can afford.” It wasn’t until later that I thought, “You know, we should make a video. It should be affordable and show new moms and dads how to do everything from A-Z.” Of course my husband said he didn’t have time to do it, but that I should.

I then recruited my twin sister.  She said she would direct the program if I came up with the script.  So I spent four months buried in research; visiting libraries and bookstores, browsing the Internet, having web chats with new moms.  I talked with maternity nurses, lactation consultants and pediatricians.  With the script finally completed, I brought another friend on board to produce the DVD…and the rest is history.

A lot of work went into this video.  My twin sister Amanda Harvey really made it happen, along with my good friend, Michelle Silverman.  And with the help of literally hundreds of people, we turned my husband’s casual comment into the ABC’s of Newborn Baby Care.

Thanks to all the people who believe in this product and who strive everyday to get this DVD to new parents everywhere.

Sincerely,

Meg Ostrow
